Ryder Practice Guidelines for Vitamin C in Trauma

Purpose
- Use of Vitamin C bolus and infusion to augment healing and reduce negative sequela of stress of trauma.
Procedure
- IV vitamin C 1.5 gram every 6 hours x 96 hours
Indications
- Trauma Laparotomy admitted to Trauma ICU
Exclusion
- Acute Kidney Injury
- Chronic Kidney Disease
- Nephrectomy
Monitoring
- Point of care blood glucose should not be impacted by this dose of vitamin C
- Daily BMP should be done on all patients receiving Vitamin C
- Monitor Intake and Output with appreciation that Vitamin C may have diuretic effect
