Level I Verified Trauma Center
Independent recognition that Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial’s leadership, medical team, and support staff are dedicated to providing optimal care for injured patients.
Overview
Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital has been verified as a Level I trauma center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
Verified trauma centers must meet measurable high standards of criteria that ensure trauma care capabilities and institutional performance. For patients, their families, and the community, verification confirms that Ryder has demonstrated its commitment to deliver the highest quality trauma care.
“Ryder has been one of Jackson’s cornerstones for years, coveted as one of the world’s busiest and most renowned trauma centers,” said Carlos A. Migoya, president and CEO of Jackson Health System. “It is also the go-to healthcare destination for Miami-Dade County’s most critical and complex medical cases. This designation is a testament to the excellent, lifesaving care delivered at Ryder at all times.”
How Level I Verification Works
Verified trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensure trauma care capability and institutional performance, as outlined by the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Trauma in its current Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient manual. The verification is determined following an on-site review of the hospital, conducted by a team of reviewers experienced in the field of trauma.
“Verification as a Level I trauma center by the ACS demonstrates that Ryder is serving the community at the highest level of national standards,” said Nicholas Namias, MD, MBA, FACS, FCCM, medical director of Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the chairman of the Florida Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons. “Ryder performs on the worldwide stage, and this confirms it.”
“While there are other trauma centers in our community, none can compete with Ryder’s unmatched care, quality outcomes, and first-class medical staff,” Migoya said. “Every day, Ryder’s medical team – University of Miami trauma surgeons alongside Jackson nurses, therapists, technicians and other support staff – makes miracles happen.”
