Tiffany Davis & Skyla Milton
In December 2012, Tiffany Davis, who was eight months pregnant at the time, was leaving a convenience store in Overtown when she was shot in a drive-by shooting. One bullet struck her in the head, and another hit her in the abdomen. Tiffany was immediately rushed to Ryder Trauma Center.
A comprehensive team composed of trauma surgeons and OB/GYN doctors and nurses rushed her into an operating room, where they performed an emergency Cesarean section to save her baby’s life. The bullet had pierced through her womb and shattered her baby girl’s arm and elbow.
Baby Skyla Milton, who weighed 4 pounds, was rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit at Holtz Children’s Hospital. The following day, a neurosurgeon performed a craniotomy to treat Tiffany’s brain injuries.
Tiffany has made a full recovery, and Skyla, who is now four years old, will start Pre-K in the fall of 2017.
